New Federal Policy Mandates NIH-Funded Manuscript Submission
As part of the 2008 Budget Consolidation Act passed by Congress and signed by President Bush in January
, 2008, the National Institutes of Health Public Access Policy requires investigators to submit their
NIH-funded final, peer reviewed manuscript to the NIH Manuscript Submission System, for posting in the
National Library of Medicine's PubMed Central archival database. The manuscript should be submitted
immediately after the final date of journal publication and no later than 12 months following publication.
The policy goes into effect on April 8. To help you navigate the new process in the most efficient manner
possible, Lewis Library created a web page explaining How to Comply with the NIH Public Access Policy.
Among the information you will find on the How to Comply with the NIH Public Access Policyis the following:
- What is the NIH Public Access Policy?
- Important dates
- What do I need to do?
- How do I reserve my deposit rights?
- How do I deposit my manuscript?
