Genesis Physicians Group Announces Change in Executive Leadership
James W. Walton, DO, Takes Helm of Independent Physicians Group
DALLAS – The Board of Directors at Genesis Physicians Group selected James W. Walton, DO as the new President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective March 1, 2013. Dr. Walton is currently Vice President of Network Performance/Baylor Quality Alliance at Baylor Health Care System. He succeeds Ron Lutz, current Genesis CEO, who is retiring after 13 years at Genesis, but will be consulting with Dr. Walton during the transition.
Dr. Walton joined Baylor Health Care System’s management team in 1996, after he and his partners sold their internal medicine practice, Ellis County Diagnostic Clinic, to Baylor. Throughout his career at Baylor, Dr. Walton focused on quality improvement strategies to eliminate health disparities in Baylor’s inpatient and ambulatory care settings. He also served as Dallas County Medical Society’s Medical Director for Project Access Dallas, a network of more than 2000 physicians and 15 hospitals providing comprehensive healthcare access to uninsured people in Dallas County.
“Dr. Walton brings exceptional balance of executive leadership and clinical experience to Genesis,” said Dr. J. Blake Bolin, Chairman of the Genesis Physicians Group board. “His focus on quality, as well as his knowledge of what it is to be a physician in private practice, will bring diverse benefits to Genesis members.”
Dr. Walton received an MBA from University of Michigan, a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the Universityof North Texas Health Science Center, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, completing his residency in internal medicine at Methodist Hospitals of Dallas. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of BluePrint Healthcare IT, as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Dallas County Medical Society Board of Directors, and is also a member of TMA’s Select Committee on Medicaid, CHIP and the Uninsured.
“The Genesis Physicians Group has an excellent reputation within the regional health care community—both among physicians and insurance companies,” said Dr. Walton. “I am excited to bring my experience and energy to physicians wishing to maintain their independence while transforming their health care delivery to bring more value to patients, payers and purchasers of care.”
Dr. Walton and his wife are relocating to East Dallas. They currently reside in Waxahachie.
